Magill Estate Restaurant – the Five Star restaurant showcasing fine South Australian food matched with Penfolds wines - was named Restaurant of the Year at the 2003 Restaurant and Catering South Australian Awards For Excellence, last night. The Award came after Magill Estate Restaurant also collected top honours in the Fine Dining category.

Based at Penfolds Magill Estate – only 15 minutes from Adelaide’s CBD, the restaurant is surrounded by five hectares of Shiraz vines. Diners experience sumptuous five-star cuisine prepared by Executive Chef Chris Matuhina and a breathtaking list of Penfolds wines – while enjoying sweeping views across the vineyard to Adelaide City and the Gulf of St Vincent. Announcing the Award, Restaurant and Catering SA Executive Officer Sally Neville said: "The number of votes the restaurant received tells us the quality is very high". More than 3,600 public votes were received for this year's awards. Finalists in the more than 25 categories were then put through a rigorous, independent judging evaluation with Penfolds Magill Estate Restaurant trumping the Restaurant of the Year and the Fine Dining categories.

The title Best Restaurant of the Year 2003 for Magill Estate Restaurant follows previous awards including: Best Restaurant in a Winery at the 2001 South Australian Restaurant & Catering Association Awards of Excellence. In 1999 Magill Estate Restaurant was inducted into the American Express Hall of Fame after winning the American Express Best Metropolitan Restaurant Award in 1996, 1997 and 1998.
