Blue Pyrenees Estate has claimed Gold, Silver, Bronze and two special commendations at London’s 2003 International Wine & Spirits Competition, one of the most prestigious wine competitions in the world.

Following on from numerous excellent reviews at home, the 2001 Blue Pyrenees Shiraz was awarded a rare Gold medal as the best wine in its category totalling over 90 points out of a possible 100.

There is only one gold awarded in each tasting category. Only 11 Australian shiraz won gold medals, including Penfolds Magill Estate, Grange and Peter Lehman Stonewell Shiraz.

Vigneron John Ellis, having recently returned from London, was delighted with the result; "Having seen the competition first hand I am extremely proud of Blue Pyrenees Estate’s achievements. It is especially gratifying to see the 2001 Blue Pyrenees Shiraz follow the success of the previous vintage by winning a Gold medal at its first show.” The 2000 Blue Pyrenees Shiraz won Gold and Silver at the Adelaide and Sydney Wine shows respectively.

“These results certainly illustrate the consistency of the Blue Pyrenees Estate vineyards to produce excellent quality fruit, especially when delivering a great Australian Shiraz. Personally I love the savoury fruit style on the palate."

Blue Pyrenees Estate achieved the following awards:

  • Gold: Blue Pyrenees Estate Shiraz 2001
  • Silver: Blue Pyrenees Estate Reserve Chardonnay 2000
  • Bronze: Blue Pyrenees Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2001
  • Commendation: Blue Pyrenees Estate Midnight Cuvee 1998, Blue Pyrenees Estate Reserve Red 1999

All wines are still available and distributed by Red+White at fine wine stores and restaurants across the country.
