For Immediate Release 12th August 2003
At the 2003 Royal Melbourne Show this month, one of Western Australia’s leading boutique wineries, Alexandra Bridge has won another Gold medal for its 101 Cabernet Sauvignon 2001. The win, (TOP GOLD) is classified under Class 32 for Cabernet Sauvignon, is the second major award for this wine, having won Gold at The Hong Kong International Wine Challenge in July 2003. The Royal Melbourne Wine Show, one of the biggest wine shows in the country, attracted approximately 4,000 entries this year. The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria has conducted an annual wine show in Melbourne for more than 100 years. Wines are judged in 'classes' - defined by variety and vintage - by panels of expert judges drawn from across the Australian wine industry and supplemented by experienced international judges. Alexandra Bridge winemaker Phil Tubb said, “The philosophy behind the 101 wines is to provide quality rather than quantity so I am pleased that this particular wine has won another gold medal.” The win is a great boost to the Alexandra Bridge winery, which is emerging as a super-premium boutique producer, focused on the southern area of the Margaret River wine region in Western Australia’s South West. |
