Victorian Wine Week and its signature event the Exhibition of Victorian Winemakers once again enlightened crowds of enthusiasts both young and old who imbibed and enjoyed a selection of over 600 wines from 120 of Victoria’s winemakers.

The Channel 7 Melbourne Public Choice Awards, which each year grow in popularity, form an unofficial measure of the public’s preferences in each major wine category and the overall best stand:

  • This year Best Sparkling was won by Chandon Vintage Brut, while Domaine Chandon also picked up the Best stand award.
  • The Best White showed the ongoing popularity of Chardonnay with a draw between Coldstream Hills Reserve Chardonnay & Nicholson River Chardonnay, the latter having now won this particular gong nine times!
  • Best Red was picked up by last year’s Best Stand winner, Warrenmang, for their Black Puma Shiraz, from Western Victoria, where sightings of large black cats continue to excite locals!
  • Morris Liqueur Muscat won in Best Fortified, following on from their success in this category at The Melbourne Wine Show.
