The Victorian Wines Show will welcome their new Chairman of Wine Show Judges internationally renown winemaker, judge and author James Halliday to the tasting room for the annual judging of Victoria’s premier wine show. Over 1000 entries of Victorian wines to be held at Puckapunyal near Seymour Victoria during October.
The judging of the 2003 Victorian Wines Show will begin on Tuesday 21 October at O Block Mess – 3 Training Group, Puckapunyal and conclude with an Awards Presentation Dinner at Mitchelton Restaurant on Friday evening 24 October. The Exhibitor, Trade, Media and Public Tasting of the Victorian Wines Show wines will be held from 10.00AM to 2.00 PM on Saturday 25 October at O Block Mess at a cost of $10 including a Results Book. The Victorian Wines Show was first judged in 1981 with 120 wines on show; in 2002 one thousand and sixty two wines were adjudicated and this year with the increasing number of new vineyards and wineries coming into production the entries are expected to again increase. The essence of the Victorian Wines Show is not to have the biggest entry list but to totally focus on wines that must be vintaged from grapes grown and made entirely in Victoria. These wines are the cream of the Victorian crop and after winning an award at the Victorian Wines Show, which is, the central and most important wine show in Victoria, the award wines can proceed to the National Wine Show in Canberra. The show s theme and philosophy is one hundred percent Victorian. A special section is allocated to new wine makers in the amateur Section; these wines cannot be made in commercial premises and are held to encourage and educate the winemakers of the future. The Victorian Wines Show judges are a strong team of top-flight winemakers and wine industry personnel. A point of difference is the allocating of a review for each and every wine judged at the show, this summary while being time consuming for the judges is invaluable to winemakers and amateurs alike by receiving a formal appraisal of their entry by their peers. A special media day to interview the Chairman of Judges James Halliday and the Director of the Victoria Wines Show Pauline Davis has been made for Wednesday 22 October beginning at 11.00AM. |
