The Gartelmann 2002 Diedrich Shiraz was given a gold medal in the 2003 Hunter Valley Wine Show scoring 55.5 points, only half a point behind the trophy winner.

The 2002 Diedrich is a ruby red colour with a nose of ripe berry fruits and maraschino cherries with liquorice and pepper spice. It is a rich full flavoured Shiraz showing sweet berry fruit balanced by spicy oak and full but soft tannins.

The wine spent 16 months in a mixture of French and American oak. This gives a subtle complexity to the wine, and the mix of new and older barrels has produced a wine influenced, but not dominated, by the oak.
