Robert Parker Jnr., widely considered to be the most influential wine-writer in the world, awarded 11 of d’Arenberg’s wines 90 points and above, at the recently held ‘Australia Report’ tasting. ‘The Australia Report’ - a compilation of the results of the comprehensiveyearly assessment of Australian wines by Robert Parker Jnr., is published in The WineAdvocate.
d’Arenberg wines rated at 90 points and above are: 2001 ‘The Dead Arm’ Shiraz - 98+ points, 2000 ‘The Dead Arm’ Shiraz - 94 pts, 2001 ‘The Coppermine Road’ Cabernet Sauvignon - 93+ pts, 2002 ‘The Laughing Magpie’ Shiraz/Viognier – 93 pts, 2001 ‘The Ironstone Pressings’ Grenache/Shiraz/Mourvedre – 92+ pts, 2000 ‘The Vintage Declared’ Shiraz Port – 92 pts, 2000 ‘The Coppermine Road’ Cabernet Sauvignon – 90 pts, 2001‘ The Twenty-Eight Road’ Mourvedre – 90 pts, 2001 ‘The d’Arry’s Original’Shiraz/Grenache – 90 pts, 2001 ‘The Footbolt’ Shiraz – 90 pts, 2000 ‘The Noble Riesling’90 pts. Chief winemaker since 1984, Chester Osborn considers the 2001 vintage of ‘The Footbolt’ Shiraz and ‘The d’Arry’s Original’ Grenache/Shiraz to be the best he has made. ‘The Dead Arm’ Shiraz continues to impress, having been previously awarded 96 points for the 1996, 1998 and 1999 vintages, and 95 pts for the 1997 vintage. Only 13 Australian red wines were rated at 98 points and above. Of these, 9 wines were from McLaren Vale, further endorsement of this region’s reputation as an internationally recognised leading producer of premium red table wines. The McLaren Vale terroir, the region’s warm and dry summers, and the cooling breeze from the southern Mount Lofty ranges and Gulf St. Vincent, combine to provide the perfect environment in which to produce wines that are acknowledged as being equal to the finest in the world. d’Arenberg’s success is the culmination of four generations of viticultural and winemaking expertise of the Osborn family. |
