MEDIA RELEASE: SEPTEMBER 12, 2003

Lillypilly Estate Wines has been awarded the Liquorland Trophy for Best Sweet White Table Wine (Floral Styles) at this week’s 2003 Griffith Wine Show.

Robert Fiumara, chief winemaker for the Leeton-based, family-owned company, said he was absolutely thrilled by the win.

“It’s always good to win a trophy on your home turf, but it’s especially exciting to be awarded so highly for a botrytised sweet white, the wine style that has given the Riverina worldwide recognition,” he said.

The trophy, and a gold medal in Class 46, were won by Lillypilly Estate 2000 Noble Blend, a botrytised sweet white made from traminer and semillon.

Unfortunately for local consumers, the winning wine will be available only in small quantities.

“Most of the 2000 vintage of our Noble Blend has already been allocated to the US market, but we’ll make sure that a few cases are available through our cellar door and to a few loyal restaurants,” said Robert Fiumara.

Lillypilly Estate produces one of Australia’s most diverse ranges of botrytised sweet whites — Noble Sauvignon Blanc, Noble Riesling and Noble Muscat of Alexandria, as well as Noble Blend.
