2010 the finest vintage yet for Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula

Date 13/07/2010

After a succession of great vintages the Mornington Peninsula completes the decade with its finest yet.

Mornington Peninsula Vignerons Association (MPVA) President and Kooyong and Port Philip Estate winemaker Sandro Mosele has said, “For me 2010 is the best vintage ever.  We have produced the style of wines that we hope to make every year”.

Martin Spedding, General Manager 10 Minutes by Tractor added “2010 is a great year and caps off a wonderful run of vintages since 2003, it really has been a golden era for the Peninsula that augurs well for the next decade”

“We were fortunate to have a seamless season, where everything you could hope for happened.  There was good rainfall in winter and spring with an uninterrupted harvest period and kind summer conditions.  This vintage reflects the best of what Mornington Peninsula can produce – classically elegant wines with great structure and concentration”

Mosele said, “The wine’s have great complexity and elegance with a lot of harmony and balance.  The quality of the vintage is across all varieties and from each of our vineyards, it’s certainly a great year to be making single vineyard wines”

MPVA members have reported the quality of the vintage across the entire region “We’ve made 15 batches of Pinot Noir and there is great consistency between them all.  This high level of consistency is an excellent sign of a quality vintage,” said Lindsay McCall, winemaker Paringa Estate.

Regarded as one of Australia’s finest regions for Pinot Noir, the Mornington Peninsula’s reputation continues to grow.  “As the region and vineyards have matured so too has our ability to grow quality grapes.  What we are seeing is excellent wine and great consistency across all the Mornington Peninsula producers”, commented Mosele.
