Mount Avoca takes over own distribution direct from winery

08/07/2010

New on-line system designed to appeal to time poor restaurants and retailers

Rising star of Victoria’s Pyrenees wine region, Mount Avoca has announced they will take over servicing and distribution for all wholesale accounts and unveiled a new on-line ordering system that promises to save time and increase sales margins for restaurants and retailers.

Aiming to match the award-winning winery’s reputation for quality with an improved standard of service across all wholesale accounts, Managing Director Matthew Barry says the new distribution approach reflects a shift in thinking and an understanding of the time poor nature of the winery’s wholesale clients.

“We’re confident that by taking back control of our distribution operations, we can offer a more personal and professional service as well as a wider range of products,” Barry said.

The pioneering Pyrenees winery and vineyard has been part of the Nelson Wine Distribution stable since May 2007, with the Victorian based distributor in control of all distribution (logistics and marketing) operations.

“Mount Avoca was in a crowded portfolio of other wineries and we were keen to take back ownership of this process and do a few things differently,” adds Barry who says the recent separation from Nelsons was amicable and positive.

“Who better to tell our own history and our own story than ourselves - and ultimately when clients are dealing with the winery direct they can be assured of better service,” he said.

As part of taking over distribution, Mount Avoca has also devised an on line ordering process that’s in direct response to feedback from retailers and restaurateurs, while a full time rep will still be on the road and working to service wholesale clients.

“Time is at a premium more than ever these days and many of our clients can’t spend hours chatting with several sales reps every day.  Placing orders should be quick and efficient, sales people should be non-intrusive and information or access to the winemakers should be there when it’s needed.”

“We recognised that what is effectively a door-to-door way of selling wine is a little old fashioned,” he added.

The on line ordering system aims to reduce paperwork, administration and ideally allow clients to better manage their own sales margins.

“In setting up our on-line distribution, we’ve focused on making ordering a simple, fast and easy process, with wholesale prices now available to restaurants and retailers on-line with a secure password,” says Barry.

In addition to the winery’s well established Estate Range, clients will now be able to purchase the TRIOSS range directly, including the just released ‘frizzante’, and a number of “Limited Release” wines.

Delivery across Victoria will be in HACCP certified temperature controlled trucks, and the winery is able to arrange for white wines to be chilled en route if required.
