The Canberra International Riesling Challenge (CIRC) has extended its closing date for entries to 31 July 2010.
Ken Helm AM, Chair of CIRC, said he is pleased with the interest received to date, and is keen to get as many entrants as possible to participate in this unique event.
"Extending the closing date will allow those parties that may not have been able to enter before the original closing date to do so," Mr Helm said.
Now in its 11th year, the CIRC is the largest single varietal wine show of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and attracts entrants from all over Australia and the world.
For the first time, the 2010 Challenge will see the introduction of two new trophies, the Best Dry Riesling in the World, being presented in the name of the ACT Government and Qantas and the Best Sweet Riesling in the World, being presented in the name of Australia Post.
"The introduction of these two new trophies is in recognition of the high quality of entrants that the Riesling Challenge attracts and the diverse range of rieslings that are now being produced around the world," Mr Helm said.
One of the features of the CIRC is that the judging is conducted on a regional basis which showcases the individual characteristics specific to the wines' location in the world. The Gold medal wines will go through to judging by country, with the top from each country progressing to the judging for the Best in the World trophy.
The Canberra International Riesling Challenge runs from 11 – 16 October 2010. The judging will take place 11 – 13 October with the winners announced at the Gala Dinner on 15 October 2010. A public tasting will take place on Saturday 16 October 2010.
